DEV 33 half-round gutter and accessories: a complete guide
Half-round Gutter DEV 33
and its accessories
The DEV 33 half-round gutter is one of the most widely used references in Swiss sheet metal roofing. Designed for roof areas over 80 m², it is installed without soldering and pairs with a complete range of accessories — brackets, outlets, downpipes, water boxes — available in galvanised steel, zinc, aluminium, copper or stainless steel. This guide covers every component, its role and the materials available at SuissePliage.
Half-round gutter DEV 33 — available in galvanised steel, zinc, aluminium, copper and stainless steel.
What does DEV 33 mean?
The number 33 refers to the gutter development, i.e. the width of the metal strip before forming. Once rolled into a semicircle, this 33 cm strip produces a gutter with an opening of approximately 16.5 cm — the ideal size for efficiently draining a large roof area.
The DEV 33 is the bigger sister of the DEV 25. It is particularly suited to chalets, farmhouses, agricultural buildings, villas and apartment buildings with a projected roof area exceeding 80 to 100 m². In Switzerland, it is the standard reference for sheet metal workers on high-rainfall roofs.
Development: 330 mm — Opening: ~165 mm — Overlap between elements: 5 cm in the direction of slope. Minimum recommended slope: 2 mm per metre. Solder-free installation using special gutter sealant.
Five materials, one product line
Every article in the DEV 33 range is available in five materials. The choice depends on your budget, the environment (coastal, industrial, high altitude) and the aesthetic requirements of the building.
| Material | Estimated lifespan | Key advantages |
|---|---|---|
| Galvanised steel | 20 – 30 years | Cost-effective, robust, easy to work with |
| Natural zinc | 40 – 60 years | Elegant grey patina, 100% recyclable |
| Aluminium | 30 – 50 years | Lightweight, maintenance-free, RAL-coatable |
| Copper | 80 – 100 years | Distinctive green patina, premium appearance |
| Stainless steel | 50 – 80 years | Maximum resistance, aggressive environments |

Complete DEV 33 accessories range: outlet, 87° bend, downpipe clip, end cap, pressed angle.
Installation order: from ridge to drain
Installing a complete system follows a simple logic — from upstream to downstream. Here are the key steps for a clean and lasting installation:
Install fascia brackets
Fix a DEV 33 fascia bracket every 40 cm on the bargeboard, maintaining a slope of 2 mm per metre towards the outlet. Use stainless steel screws for lasting hold.
Connect gutter lengths
Slide the gutters together at the bead with a 5 cm overlap in the direction of slope. Apply a bead of gutter sealant at each joint.
Fit angles and close ends
At each roof corner, fit the pressed DEV 33 angle. Close any free ends with clip-on end caps. Apply sealant to every joint.
Clip the outlet and connect the downpipe
Drill the gutter at the chosen point, fit the universal 33/100 outlet and fold down its clips. Then connect the Ø100 downpipe via an 87° bend if needed.
Fix downpipe clips
Fix a Ø100 downpipe clip every metre along the wall. Place the expandable leaf guard in the outlet to protect the downpipe from blockage.
Complete DEV 33 system installation — fascia brackets, gutter connection and Ø100 downpipe fitting.

Frequently asked questions
The DEV 25 suits roof areas up to around 80 m². The DEV 33, with its 16.5 cm opening, is sized for areas over 80–100 m² or with heavy rainfall. When in doubt, the DEV 33 is the safe choice for a Swiss residential property.
No. It is essential to use the same metal for all elements in contact. Mixing zinc and copper, or aluminium and galvanised steel, causes galvanic corrosion that quickly degrades the parts. The material choice must be consistent throughout the installation.
No. The entire DEV 33 range is installed without soldering. Connections are made by sliding the bead together, and sealing is achieved with special gutter sealant applied at each joint. This technique greatly simplifies installation, even for non-specialists.
The 200×200 water box is designed for flat roofs and valleys, where water flows by gravity to a central collection point. It does not replace a half-round gutter on a conventional pitched roof, but often completes the system for extensions or adjoining terraces.
