Dimensioning segments

How to record dimensions for a folded profile before ordering: outside reference, bend orientation and the correct method for each angle.

Important: allow for sheet thickness when calculating parts that must fit together.

01 — Orientation

Segment orientation

Segments in the same direction

All bends face the same side. The outside dimension is applied continuously to each segment.

Segments in opposite directions

When bends alternate, the outside measurement remains the reference while following each direction change.

02 — Method

Measurement according to bend angle

A correct profile representation depends on the measurement point used. The method changes for an open angle above 90°.

Direct parallel measurement

For a closed angle up to 90°, measure parallel to the outside face of the segment.

Apex measurement

For an open angle above 90°, measure at the imaginary intersection of the extended segments.

Continuous outside dimension on each segment.
Segments folded in the same direction

Opposite directions

Outside measurement remains the reference with alternating bends.

Measure according to angle
Angle ≤ 90°: direct method
Measure parallel to the outside face of the segment.
Direct measurement for a closed angle
Angle > 90°: apex method
Measure at the imaginary intersection of the extended segments.
