Measurements, substrate and tools

Tools required to install metal coping

Prepare the installation

Measure the finished wall width, including render or insulation. Coping must project on both sides so its folded returns form drip edges and move rainwater away from the facade.

Check: flat, clean, dry and stable substrate.
Provide: copings, connectors, end caps and suitable fixings.
Tools: tape, pencil, drill, fixings, level and sealant.

02 — Tutorial

Install coping in 6 steps

01

Record sizes

Measure wall width, length and corners, allowing for overhangs and end caps.

02

Dry position

Lay the elements out before fixing to check alignment and joints.

03

Mark fixings

Mark regular drilling points according to the substrate and fixing method.

04

Fix the coping

Drill and fasten while checking stability without distorting the metal.

05

Fit connectors

Position joint pieces and end caps with the required movement allowance.

06

Seal details

Apply compatible sealing products where specified and clean excess material.

Reliable sealing

Use a product compatible with both the metal and substrate, following its application and curing requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What width should I choose for parapet coping?

The width must cover the finished wall and allow an overhang on both sides so the folded drip edges shed water away from the facade. Measure after the substrate is finished.

Do I need sealant or a joint between coping sections?

Joints and sealing must be treated according to the installation system and substrate, using compatible products and the required movement allowance.

Can I order custom aluminium coping with a RAL colour?

Yes. SuissePliage supplies custom bent coping and profiles, including aluminium with RAL finishes according to available options.
